How to get better at The Rhyme Game
Last updated · Written by The Rhyme Game Wiki
Quick answer
Improve one skill at a time. Week one is timing on All Words. Week two is rhyme recall on First Only. Week three is setup and punchline on Last Only. Week four is holding one sound across four lines with AAAA. Play at least 8 bars a day.
Short explanation
Most players stall because they try to improve everything at once. The official fill modes already map to separate skills, so you can use them as a training plan.
This plan is our suggestion and is not an official program. It uses only the official modes and the 8 bar daily streak.
The four week plan
| Week | Focus | Setting | Daily goal |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Timing | All Words, AABB, about 90 BPM | 8 to 16 bars, land every rhyme on beat four |
| 2 | Rhyme recall | First Only, AABB | 16 bars, find the matching rhyme without pausing |
| 3 | Setup and punchline | Last Only, AABB | 16 bars, write toward the target word |
| 4 | Holding one sound | Last Only, AAAA | 16 bars, collect four rhymes per sound |
Step by step: a daily routine
-
Warm up with the Rhyme Finder
Look up two words you struggled with yesterday. Read the perfect and near rhymes aloud.
-
Play eight easy bars
Use last week's setting. This keeps your streak and your confidence.
-
Play eight bars at the current level
This is where you grow. Accept mistakes and keep moving.
-
Note one thing
Write down a single word or sound that tripped you. Practice it tomorrow.
Examples
Week three couplet with Last Only
You see only the word "heat" at the end of bar two. You write toward it: bar one, "Summer in the city and it never gets old". Bar two: "Every corner feeling like a bit of the heat".
Week four word bank for AAAA on "ay"
Day, play, stay, way, say, okay, away. Pick four before the session and rotate which ones you use.
Common mistakes
-
Rushing to the hardest settings
Skipping weeks one and two leaves gaps. Timing and recall are the base for every harder mode.
-
Only playing when motivated
Short daily sessions build habits. The official streak starts at 8 bars.
-
Never reviewing

How to get better at The Rhyme Game: FAQ
How long until I see improvement?
Many players notice better timing within a week of daily practice. Rhyme recall takes a bit longer. These are general expectations, not guarantees.
Should I use the same beat every day?
A familiar beat builds timing. A new beat builds flexibility. Alternate between them.
What is the best fill mode for improvement?
All Words trains flow, First Only trains rhyme recall, Last Only trains setup, and No Words trains everything unassisted.
Can I practice without the app?
Yes. See how to practice freestyle rap for drills that need only a beat and a timer.
